At this point you may be asking, “How do I afford this?” The short answer is, YOU don’t.

At the beginning of the social media era, the Editor-in-Chief of Wired Magazine wrote an essay called 1,000 True Fans. The gist is this: Because our world is growing increasingly interconnected, artists can use the internet (and their social media platforms) to find their audience. This may sound simple, but it has not always been the case!

A ‘true fan’ is “a fan that will buy anything you produce,” the ones that “will drive 200 miles to see you sing” or “buy the hardback and paperback and audible versions of your book.” A patronage model connects you directly with your true fans and generates income to support your music and art.
